Soundiron Imbibaphones 2.0 Wine Glass Virtual Instrument
Posted by Scott R. Garrigus

Soundiron releases Imbibaphones 2.0 - Unique Musical Wine Glass Tuned PercussionThe Imbibaphones library is a unique spin on the classic musical wine glass. The contents typically contained in wine glasses have provided inspiration for musicians since the first time the two were formally introduced. The wine glass became popular as a musical instrument in the 18th century. We decided to interpret this concept in our own particular way. Instead of just using a set of wine goblets, we also sampled tuned percussion and resonant sustains with a martini glass, champagne flute, and after one happy accident, a broken glass. We captured natural sustaining finger rubbed notes and soft mallet strikes for each type of glass. We then applied a variety of effects to create atmospheres, pads and effects.

Imbibaphones comes complete with a variety of GUI features to allow deep real-time performance shaping. Imbibaphones captures the complex resonances that occur during the sustaining notes of each glass as well as the full bell-like sounds of each glass being hit with a mallet...

Mackie Big Knob Studio Monitor Controller
Posted by Scott R. Garrigus

Mackie Big Knob a Workhorse for Composer, Producer Jason T. MillerFor composer, producer, and session guitarist Jason T. Miller, time crunches are just part of the job. Inspired by his father, TV and film composer and arranger Bruce Miller, the younger Miller has assembled a strong track record as a songwriter and record producer, including co-writing and producing tracks for Grammy winners Kanye West and Keyshia Cole and co-writing a song for Reba McEntire. He also has wielded his axe at many a session-while still in college at UCLA, he earned numerous accolades as a guitarist and played on an episode of Frasier and on the CBS comedy Becker.

Miller also does a lot of scoring for television and commercials, including spots for Honda, Pizza Hut, Kay Jewelers, and many more. With TV work, especially, the clock is ticking, and he needs to work fast. That's where his Mackie Big Knob Studio+ Monitor Controller/Interface comes to the rescue. "The Big Knob Studio+ is the cornerstone of my studio setup," reveals Miller. "When scoring for television, time crunch is usually an issue. You get an episode to mix, and you have to deliver in two days. You have a lot of people waiting for the finished product, and if you don't deliver, you're out of a job. It has got to be done right and quickly the first time..."

Manley Reference Silver Tube Microphone
Posted by Scott R. Garrigus

Manley Reference Silver Tube MicrophoneRob Schnapf exudes a contentment and inner joy that comes from 20 years being right where he belongs. Producer, engineer, mixer, and musician currently stationed in his MANT studio next door to Kingsize Sound Labs in L.A., Schnapf has earned this satisfaction through his acclaimed work with Beck, Mavis Staples, Elliott Smith, the Vines, the Foo Fighters, Richard Thompson, Moby, Guided By Voices, and Tokyo Police Club, as well as his co-production with Booker T. Jones of Jones' Potato Hole and The Road From Memphis, both Grammy-winning albums. Schnapf's more recent credits include projects by Kurt Vile (b'lieve i'm going down), Cass McCombs (Mangy Love) the Bronx (V), Joyce Manor (Cody), and Richard Edwards (Lemon Cotton Candy Sunset).

Schnapf spent much of the '90s and early 2000s working out of Sunset Sound before transitioning to his own MANT studios, logging long sessions for big label projects. These days, he has more artistic and budgetary control over his work than ever, but is still motivated most by his relationship with the music and the good people who make it. "I'm not a big fan of the transactional relationship, so I like working on stuff where I like the people, or I'm moved by the music," he says. "One of the awesome things about this job is that you get to have these intimate relationships with people that are based on the art..."
