On October 7, 2005, at the AES convention in New York City, Digidesign will debut the all-new Pro Tools® HD 7 software for Pro Tools|HD® systems, Pro Tools LE™ 7 software for Pro Tools LE systems, and Pro Tools M-Powered™ 7 software for Pro Tools M-Powered systems.
 
All customers who purchase a Pro Tools|HD, Pro Tools LE, or Pro Tools M-Powered system on or after September 1, 2005, are automatically eligible for a free upgrade to the corresponding version of Pro Tools 7 software for their system (i.e., Pro Tools HD 7 software, Pro Tools LE 7 software, or Pro Tools M-Powered 7 software, respectively). Also, all customers who purchase a software upgrade to Pro Tools TDM 6.9.x or Pro Tools LE 6.9.x on or after September 1, 2005, are also eligible for a free upgrade to Pro Tools 7 software. The free upgrade to Pro Tools 7 software will be available as a download from the Digidesign website. Specific upgrade plans and pricing for customers who have purchased their Pro Tools system before September 1, 2005, will be made available soon.
 
We will be sending out a more detailed Pro Tools 7 software product announcement just before the AES show. This announcement will include more in-depth information on the new features in Pro Tools 7 software, upgrade details, and a thorough Q&A section. At this time we’ll also have the latest compatibility information for Pro Tools 7 software available on the Digidesign website. In the meantime, below you’ll find a sneak peek of some of the top new features in Pro Tools 7 software which you can refer to if customers approach you with questions about this software release.  

Product Information
Digidesign® Pro Tools 7 software introduces a plethora of new features and enhancements that deliver significantly expanded MIDI and audio recording and editing capabilities, greater mixing power and flexibility, enhanced efficiency, and improved ease of use, providing a new creative environment for the industry-standard digital audio workstation.
 
Pro Tools 7 software is a cross-platform release (supporting Windows XP and Mac OS X computers), and is available for Pro Tools|HD, Pro Tools LE, and Pro Tools M-Powered systems. Nearly all of the new features and enhancements are implemented in all versions.

MIDI
* New Instrument Tracks combine MIDI and audio capabilities in a single channel strip, simplifying routing for virtual instruments and MIDI sound modules
* Real-time MIDI processing enables users to control MIDI quantization, note duration and velocity, transposition, and timing in real time
* Enhanced groove quantization features, including the ability to apply groove template quantization across multiple tracks, add randomization to further humanize the feel of a groove, and apply groove template quantization to incoming MIDI signals
 
Audio
* New Region Groups allow grouping of any combination of audio and MIDI regions, across any number of tracks
* New Region Looping feature offers an easy way to repeat one or more audio regions, MIDI regions, and Region Groups, speeding up composing and arranging
* Support for REX and ACID audio files—the two most popular audio formats for loops and samples
 
Power & Mixing
* Improved host processing efficiency on dual-core and single- and multi-processor computers allows users to run more RTAS processing and instrument plug-ins simultaneously
* Support for up to 10 sends per track increases mixing flexibility and allows larger, more complex mixing architectures
* Support for RTAS plug-ins on Aux Inputs and Master Faders on Pro Tools|HD systems, providing greater mixing options and improving session transferability between Pro Tools|HD and Pro Tools LE/Pro Tools M-Powered systems
 
Ease of Use
* Reorganized Pro Tools menu structure offers streamlined and more logical menu navigation (key commands remain the same)
* New Tool Tips feature adds “rollover” descriptions of objects in the Pro Tools software interface
