Mojave Audio, a new company founded by David Royer (known for his work with ribbon microphones) has announced the MA-200 tube condenser microphone. Known primarily for David Royer's custom microphone modifications and do-it-yourself tube microphone kits, Mojave Audio is now moving away from kits and focusing its efforts on fully assembled products. The MA-200 represents the company's first large-scale production effort.

Evolving from David's 20-plus years as a designer of custom microphones, the MA-200 provides warm, full-bodied reproductions of vocals and instruments without the shrillness and high frequency artifacts so often encountered with modern condenser microphones according to the company. Using hand-selected 3-micron capsules, Jensen audio transformers, and military grade JAN 5840 vacuum tubes, the MA-200 was designed with an eye on the performance characteristics of some of the best-loved classic microphones, but priced far more competitively--under $1,000.

The Mojave Audio MA-200 utilizes a 1-inch (diameter) gold sputtered capsule in conjunction with a specially designed American transformer and a military grade JAN 5840 vacuum tube. With its cardioid polar pattern, the MA-200 is suitable for vocals, voice over, piano, acoustic instruments, drum overheads, orchestra, spot miking, and related applications. Further, the MA-200 employs a balanced transformer output. The microphone ships with a carrying case, power supply, shock mount, and cables.
