Yamaha Commercial Audio earned honors from the integration industry at the 2005 NSCA Systems Integration Expo® when the Yamaha PM5D Digital Mixing Console was named winner of an Innovations in Technology Award. Introduced in 2004, the PM5D was designed to create a new category of live performance digital mixing consoles for regional sound reinforcement, houses of worship, theaters and educational facilities.

Now in its third year, the award program is sponsored by Sound & Video Contractor magazine and ProSoundWeb.com. Nominated products are judged against a standard of excellence and the impact each has had on the advancement of the electronic systems industry. An independent voting committee chose three finalists for each of the seven product categories were chosen out of more than 100 entries. Attendees of the NSCA Systems Integration Expo then cast their votes for one winner per company in each category.

Winners were announced at the annual NSCA Presidents’ reception on Saturday, March 12 and included: for the Audio category, the Yamaha PM5D; for the Business Productivity category, D-Tools’ System Integrator 4; for the Control Systems category, Stardraw.com's Stardraw Control; for the Convergence category, Crestron Electronics’ UPX2 Universal Presentation Processor; for Security/Fire/Life Safety, Bosch Security Systems’ Dinion xf Day/Night Camera; for Video/Display, MAX by AMX; and for the Website category, Listen Technologies for www.listentech.com.

“This award is an honor for everyone involved with the product—from the designers and engineers in Japan to those involved in the sales, marketing and installation of the PM5D here in the U.S.,” states Larry Italia, general manager, Yamaha Commercial Audio Systems division. “It not only represents approval from the industry, but also recognizes Yamaha as the top manufacturer supporting the digital platform in the systems integration and sound reinforcement marketplace.”

Yamaha PM5D
The Yamaha PM5D Series combines the advanced features and self-contained design of the DM2000 with the operating style of the PM1D. A simple “one box” design includes the mix engine, and 64 input channels (48 mono + 4 Stereo analog inputs, 4 internal stereo returns) of dynamic 96 kHz audio with 32-bit internal processing. Customers have a choice of two front-end configurations: Model PM5D includes 48 XLR analog mono inputs with manual mic preamps based on the circuitry found in the Yamaha DM2000, while model PM5D-RH includes 48 XLR analog mono inputs with recallable mic preamps, derived from the head amplifier design of the Yamaha PM5000.
