I also posted a link to that here....

It's very useful. Compression is one of the things we all need to understand to make our recordings sound like what we are used to hearing!

It's been said that you could make a record without reverb, but not without compression.

AND when it comes to mastering, well that is a whole 'nother kettle of fish! Excellent stuff from iZotope!

Check out the pdf book if you have not already. iZotope is a bit expensive but it sure does a lot. I prefer on Vocals to pre-process as much as possible before recording using dbx rack equipment and fine tune it later. Also on Guitar/Bass and eliminating highs and lows in the volume which can be easily done with dbx. Also De-essing and noise gating gives you a much better sound to record then fine tune it in SONAR. Why let SONAR try to fix all of the raw signal but that is me as an ex-Sound person when doing it live in a mix. There are many ways to do it and post production is very powerful as well with the right equipment and software.

Did it already.

Someone I knew had Ozone for Mastering a while back and I was very impressed with it, but Sonar has lots of new tools for mastering now and I also, have the IK T-Racks stuff. I don't know that I would add Ozone now, but maybe.

The info and principles are essential, however and I am delighted that iZotope put this out.

Me too but I will wait and see if I really need it since I am still working on my Studio setup and not doing recording until I have everything setup properly.

I used Ozone 3 for several years and thought it was fantastic. When I wanted to upgrade to version 5 I demo'd 5 along side of Voxengo Elephant and found Elephant was much smoother and was just a tad "better" as a maximizer. I sometimes miss some of Ozones features like multi-compression and the multi-band exciter but found that I really just need a maximizer, especially after bringing Waves Kramer Master Tape into the fold.

Izotope has always been really great though with helping people learn how to self-master their mixes.

That pdf that you can download from my site is very informative Steve. If I can get a discount I would love to have the Ozone 5 mastering software!

Maybe I am off here, but wasn't some Ozone offered with Sonar a few versions back?

I do not remember that but I like the mastering version 5. It seems very powerful and I will wait until I get going on SONAR mastering to see if I need it.

I've always done my "mastering" in Sound Forge and am intending to try the next tunes (2nd half of our CD or maybe the whole CD) all in Sonar.

Of course I can use my T-Racks and Sound Forge in Sonar, so it's simply a new way to go about it.

SONAR never included any iZotope plug-ins, but Sound Forge does include some scaled-down iZotope plug-in versions.

Ah, thanks Scott. I knew my recollection was sound but had some fuzzy edges! LOL

I remember getting Sony newsletters about it, now.

Thanks Scott for chiming in. Do you think the Mastering Ozone 5 is a good product?
