I'd had constant problems with dropouts using sonar 8 & 8.5 with the Allen Heath ZedR16 (firewire i may add )for 2 years & decided to get the whole lot sorted after being put on to PAQ in London a custom Daw builder..

My sonar projects would usually always dropout on playback or tracking for no apparent reason & despite all the tweaks i'd had done no change..

This was a month & a half ago & his findings were initially that my Daw was crap..

Well Ok he decovered that my harddrive was becoming really hot due to lack of airflow through my daw thus it was damaged beyond repair & ready to die on me & really noisey.

A couple of services were stopped which were not required..

He also fitted one of his quieter cases which should reduce alot of noise & claims is very quiet indeed.

Also when opening projects of different sample rates there was normally always an initial dropout which appears to be a bug with sonar, Allen & Heath (firewire ) or windows it's not clear who is responsible but this does not happen in the new sonar 9 beta i am told apparently...

I should be back up & running in a couple of weeks so i'll keep you posted check out ( http://www.paqt.co.uk/ )

Cool... glad you got things sorted.

It's definitely easier when you can afford to go with a custom DAW PC build.

By the way, there's no SONAR 9... it's actually called SONAR X1 and it has already been released. It's no longer in beta.

My latest SONAR X1 Power book is almost out as well:

Yes, you would need to pay for it.

It's a brand new version.

Hi Sean,

Yep, you should be able to purchase SONAR X1 for an upgrade price since you're coming from 8.5. I think you need to do that by going directly through Cakewalk. You might want to contact their customer service, just in case over at cakewalk.com.

Hi Sean,

I'm not sure about the price. But it should be listed over in the Cakewalk online store. Or you can contact their customer service.
