Hi everyone.
I recently had to upgrade my desktop to Windows XP and now I can't run VSC any longer. I have 2 questions:
Is there any kind of patch?
Is there another software program that will do the same thing?
Will it have the same sounds and can it be used as the defaut midi player.
My only option is to uninstall xp and just use this desktop for music only. Not an option yet.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Moo,

Welcome to DigiFreq! Be sure to check out the free newsletter, if you haven't already: http://www.digifreq.com/digifreq/

As for the VSC, Cakewalk replaced that softsynth with the TTS-1 in later versions of Sonar.

Or do you mean that you're using the VSC as an independent piece of software for MIDI playback in Windows? If so, then I think you can purchase an updated version (VSC3) over at PG Music:

I'm having the same problem. I use VSC3 as the midi output to Cakewalk's Home Studio for playback of MIDI files , which I use as backing tracks.

It was working fine with XP...but now is not. I get an error message
saying the midi output or soundcard output to which it is routed cannot be opened. I'm using an Audigy 2 ZS soundcard, and it seems to working fine with other applications.

If Scott reads this, is there any other standalone midi player with decent sound like the VSC that I can use? Can I use the TTS1 in Sonar instead?

Hi Chris,

I don't know of any free ones, but there's Bandstand from Native Instruments:

If you have Sonar, then yes the TTS-1 works and the sounds are similar to the VSC.

Thanks, Scott...I'll check out Bandstand... it looks good. If the sounds are as good or better than the VSC, it could become my new MIDI player.

In the meantime, I've emailed MOO to see what fixes he found for his problem.

Like most software problems, continued tweaking and patience does the trick...I'll keep trying.

Thanks again for the quick repsonse...good to know the guru's listening.

I received chrisbates email and replied.
As an FYI to all. I purchased VSC 3 from PG Music ( I had to buy another program as well, they would not sell VSC only.
(I bought Powertracks)I downloaded the files and they also sent me the hard copies on disc about a week later.
The VSC softwear installed perfectly.I use Jammer Pro for my stuff and after designating my midi out to VSC, i was back in business.
I tried gettimg VSC for free online but everything i found had viruses. So I bought it VSC $20.00 Powertracks which I may use when I have time to really learn it, was faily cheap as well. Plus I also received Real Drums free! I consider the total cost of all three programs was worth the price even if I only use VSC 3/

Thanks to Moo for his reply...

I had reason to believe that the install had failed on all previous attempts. (Helper Icon did not show up in system tray)I kept uninstalling and re-installing it. Eventually it took, and now it works fine.

Gotta love that software !
