| Xfer Records Releases Serum 2 - Free Update for Existing Users | ||||||
 Xfer Records, headed up by Steve Duda, has launched Serum 2, the highly anticipated follow-up to the popular Serum wavetable synthesizer.Serum 2 significantly expands the sonic capabilities of Serum, introducing new oscillator types and workflow enhancements. The new oscillator types in Serum 2 include the Multisample Oscillator, Sample Oscillator, Granular Oscillator, and Spectral Oscillator, broadening the sound design potential beyond traditional wavetables. The Wavetable Oscillator features increased flexibility, with the Smooth Interpolation mode providing seamless wavetable transitions. New warp modes complement existing filtering, FM, PD, ring modulation, and distortion options within the Wavetable Oscillator. The Multisample Oscillator in Serum 2 facilitates the accurate replication of real instruments, offering a comprehensive library of recorded instruments and supporting the sfz file format for user-imported multisamples. The Sample Oscillator, while primarily for sample playback, includes advanced features like looping with snap loop detection, flexible loop modulation, a rate control for tape stop effects, sample slicing with real-time score extraction, and comprehensive FM/PD/Distortion capabilities. The Granular Oscillator in Serum 2 introduces granular synthesis, and the Spectral Oscillator enables real-time harmonic resynthesis and transient detection for advanced time and frequency manipulation within Serum 2. Serum 2 also features a dual filter with new filter types, enhanced mixer and routing capabilities, and a redesigned effects section with dual busses and a master FX chain, providing maximum flexibility for sound design and mixing within Serum 2.
