So far, all is fine.
The best deal about the upgrade was it is $99 (until April 15th) and it included a free copy of CD Archetect 5.2.
If you order the $99 deal, I would order the box version since they ship free and you get nice startup manual for both aps.

OK, dumb question:
I've been using SF XP4.5 that came with the SoundBlaster Live! bundle. Other than the ability to edit wave forms at a greater than 1/1 ratio, what's in later versions of SoundForge that are worth buying? Also, I have Windows 98, and due to my software/hardware/comfort level, I won't upgrade any time soon, so what would be the latest version that will run on my rig?

Thanks,
Robert J

this thread makes me realize how mad I should be that my Sonar 3 at $400 or whatever it was doesn't let me truly edit soundwaves....

what the hell??!!!

you should just be able to doubleclick the .wav in the track and up comes a sound editor that rocks...

maybe Sonar 5???

Hi Robert,

Sound Forge 8 will only run under Windows 2000 or Windows XP, so you're out of luck if you stay with Windows 98.

Best,
Scott

Thanks for the reply, Scott. I've been unable to reply for some time.

The question remains, is there a value to me of upgrading from the bundled version (4.5, came w/cakewalk) to 7 (or whichever highest version that will run on W98)?

Thanks,

Robert

I would think so. But I not sure how much you use this software. For me to have some of the latest fretures is important. But I'm unsure as to how you'd upgrade to any higher version. As soon as v8 was available the older version was no longer sold at Sony's site. But you can look for a 6 or 7 full version on Ebay. I would be sure though which version still supported 98.

Also note that Sound Forge (the Pro version) is a host for DX plugins (VST too in the last version).

Hi Robert,

Yes, it really depends on if you need the new features or not. That's what it really comes down to. Does the version you have do everything you need it to? Or are you trying to do something and find that your version of Sound Forge can't do it?

I believe version 6 ran under Win98, but I'm not sure about 7. I've been using WinXP for a while now and haven't used Win98 for a very long time.

You'll probably need to do a search over on www.google.com to see if there is a feature list out on the Net somewhere. Sony no longer provides the older versions for sale.

Best,
Scott
