He disregarded Sonar. We didn't test Sonar over at his place so I'm not sure what happened over there. As far as Presonus Studio One goes... I've got that working now here at my home studio. I reinstalled the drivers and made a few routing changes (I have everything routed through an M-Audio Omni i/o). There is a control panel in the software of the Omni that I may have to play with to get Sonar working again... not sure.
The only problem I have with Studio One now is the software talking to my Edirol PCR 800 MIDI Controller keyboard. I can get it to trigger the soft synths and instruments in Studio One but so far haven't any luck syncing up the sliders, rotary knobs and buttons on the PCR 800. ????
I'm going to work on getting Sonar up and running today. Guess I'll try uninstalling the driver's and reinstalling for a start.

Hi Spanky,
I do realize that this post is almost a year old, but I'm doing just what your aiming at.
I'm hoping that you have long since gotten this setup & working, but in case you've just given up on it, I want to tell you that it can & does work just fine.
I have both DAWs on my desktop rig.
#1 Sonar X2a Producer #2 Studio One 2.5 Professional
I have 2 different interfaces - both DAWs see both interfaces & I have the choice of either one using ASIO, and even both if using WDM with my better interface.
I also have the Edirol UA-25 and both DAWs see that one as well, although I don't have that one hooked up any more.
Not only can I switch between both DAWs at will, but I even had both DAWs open at once without issue side by side on my 2 of 3 monitors.
So I want you to know that it is very possible to do.
Do hope you got it going.
If not, perhaps I can help.

Thanks for your reply, Jim. Since that post, I ruined my Omni i/o interface by trying to fix a scratchy pot. (anyone know where I can take the Omni to get it fixed?) I have since switched to an M-Audio Firewire 410; re-routed some connections; upgraded driver's and things seem to be working okay. Also made up a template for the Presonus software that enables me to use my PCR 800 keyboard with both Studio One and Sonar. I've found after several years of trial and error with this stuff, one just has to keep plugging away and eventually things start to fall into place. Of course, by that time, all of your software and hardware has been outdated by the latest and greatest stuff that technology can provide. Nowadays, one doesn't even need to be a musician to play and produce music with decent results. Kind of pisses me off... but you can't stop "progress" I guess. I worked so darned hard to learn my instruments and my music... not to mention all the time I put in to learn how to engineer and record, mix and master it properly. Now any kid can spend a few bucks on software and watch a few YouTube video's and turn out acceptable "music"... not my style but I can appreciate the effort that went into it. It's a brand new world out there.
Cheers. S~ |
