In SONAR X1d Producer Expanded build 535 x64:

I have a MIDI bass part where the G2 note is not playing when using the SI-Bass
Guitar soft-synth. Everything from C3 and higher plays in the part. Anything
below C3 does not. Depending on the preset sometimes I get string noise.

I will say that a G2 note is a VALID bass guitar note. I click the properties
for the G2 note in staff view I see that the string is 0. If I change this to 1
and back to 0 and click OK I get the message "Current pitch cannot be played on
this string." ?!?!?!?

What is the problem?

Thanks,
John

Hi John,

I just checked it and it looks like you're just hitting the range of the instrument. I can play Bb2 to C6 and that's it. Remember that this is a sampled instrument, so they probably didn't sample any notes outside that range.

What I find interesting is that the note is in the range of a bass guitar. On the staff G2 is the first line. It's just annoying that something that is valid is not in the soft synth.

Instead of SI-Bass, you might want to check out Dimension Pro, which has a good selection of bass sounds too.

I compared the pitches produced by the SI-Bass and the MIDI bass part. I found that the SI-Bass part is not using the standard bass staff for the note ranges. They are assigning the lowest sampled bass note to start at C3 on the bass staff. The tone of the SI-Bass lowest sampled note is actually C2 though. So I just transposed the MIDI bass part up one octave and the problem is solved.

So much for details.

Thanks!
John

Ah ha! It's always the little things that matter when it comes to technology.

I'm glad you found the solution and thanks for posting the info. I'm sure others will find it useful too.
