You might want to post a separate topic about your questions. That would be better than answering them here in this unrelated topic.

HAPPY CHRISTMAS, OTTO!!

... and a Happy and Healthy New Year to all my friends here on Digifreq.

Otto... Do you ever read the manuals to any of the toys you get or are you able to plug 'em in and rock 'n roll right out of the box?

I get hand-me-down toys from folks who have moved on to the "latest and greatest" stuff. I'm grateful to get them but don't really know how to use 80% of what they can do. I'm "high-tech challenged".

I've got a cool little Yamaha mixer someone gave me that I'm still trying to figure out what to do with!

Just bought Scott's Sonar X1 Power book to tackle X1... that I've had for 2 months along with Presonus' Studio One. Trying to get a grip on those two programs.
Uhhh.... Melodyne? Hello?

Not sure if I've asked this on another post but... is it possible to use a Firewire interface on a laptop that only has USB ports? Is there some kind of adapter thingy available to do this? I"ve researched this on the net buy get conflicting advice. Some say yes but don't know what to use; some say to trash the thing (M-Audio Firewire 410)and stick with USB 3.0.

Here's another for ya...
On my desktop DAW I'm still running Sonar 6 (yeah, yeah I know). I'm using an old M-Audio Omni i/o interface (USB 2.0) with it. It works but what if I loaded Sonar X1 into that same computer(HP) and ran that program independently through the Firewire 410... would that work to my advantage? How to go about hooking that up?

I've got the Presonus Studio One running on the laptop going through a Presonus AudioBox interface.

Now that I'm "retired" ... put out to pasture prematurely along with many other fellow citizens... I have time to finally mess around with this stuff... as archaic as it is.

Lots of other questions but don't want to hog up this thread.

Thanks for all that y'all do here.

Happy New Year.

Hi Spanky,

Don't get rid of the 410, that's not good advice, whoever gave it to you. That box will serve you well.

You can certainly pickup an inexpensive FW>USB adapter but I'm not aware of an adapter that would allow you to still power the the 410 via the computer's bus (the USB bus). But you have a power supply, so just use that. The adapter you need would be a 6pin FW to USB.

Spanky, I have no idea, as to your question about the manuals and using the gear and software - I never use any of this stuff. I just buy it and collect it. Most of the stuff stays in the box unopened. The complexity of it all - I don't even like trying to figure out the complex features of a new watch or things like a VCR - or whatever the digital version is - DVR. I rarely use any of the advanced feature - but I sure want to have them!!!

hehehe... you're funny Otto.
For audio interfaces with PC, firewire is the only consistent way as to not to have poblems with the datastream, even the newer usb versions. - been there, done that

At least I can go either way - as I have interfaces with both Firewire and USB2 - don't have Firewire 800 devices, nor USB3 - but I don't expect to do a lot of heavy track counts either. So far, I'm loving my Fantom G6 - and any time I have - it's being used up playing that synth. Haven't even gotten to the Korg or the Nord yet.
