I have a Pentium 4, 2.4 ghz processor and 512 ram and dual hard drives C: for programs and D: for data ( I am expanding my ram to 2gb ) is this going to be adequate to run Sonar 7 at top efficiency. I see they recommend a 2.8 but money being tight it is cheaper to expand the ram, and purchase Sonar 7 , than it is to buy a new processor and motherboard and ram. Paul

I bet you'll do just fine. You will hit the limits sooner but a little extra effort can keep you rolling right along.

A hint: If you can at some point buy a dedicated comp to run your audio software. A pre-configured DAW with a decent/real soundcard is a Great investment. This does work very well.

I have a dawbox.com music machine and video machine. They Rock with no hassles. If you know what you want to do tell the salesman what you need, everything else will fall into place.

Love to make that music,as well I love to tweak,Make my own sample sets

Paul:

Here is the system that I'm running:

-Intel Pentium 4 2.8Ghz w/ Hyperthreading
-2GB RAM
-2 Hard Drives
-M-Audio FireWire 410 (Usuing ASIO drivers)
-Win XP Pro
-Sonar 7

With my system I have trouble doing anything at 24/96 but have found that 24/44 is about the best my system can handle. So if you want to record the highest quality of audio I would recommend a different box, but otherwise Sonar 7 runs great on my machine.

The Zoom H2 records 24/96 to sd card. This can be imported to Sonar or any other app.

This may sound silly but a dedicated harddisk recorder able to do 24/96 and has a firewire/usb port to computer for edits/midi/effects/processing and can real time record multiple tracks is a solid way to do a Daw setup. Archiving/CD burning can be handled by the computer and there is no fuss ever when it's time to capture your tracks.

I mension this as Harddisk Recorders now come with ports and their price is dropping. The dac's in most are not to bad.

Also of note is the H2'S ability to record surround at 24/96 with 4 mics Mine is on the way from Sweetwater w/a 2 gig card.
