I've hung out in Madris, NM! I lived in Albuquerque a few times during the mid '80s to mid '90s, plus Taos and Chimayo, too. I gigged around the state a lot, mostly with country variety bands or acoustic solo.

The track has a very loose feel. The elements all seem like the right ones, but it doesn't quite jell cohesively, in the grooving shuffle sort of way......
maybe some sort of percussion part could glue it all together, like a steady half closed hi hat or something.... steady triplets on the piano?
of course it's IMO

Good mix, etc. The bridge (? just before the end) when it goes to Eb is much better groove wise.
