Posted - 10/12/2011 : 07:55:13 AM It's been a long time since I visited these forums. Had decided 8.5 was it for me and when I started getting word about X1 and saw that the hardware requirements stated a Core 2 processor as minimum I decided to put it out of my mind since I didn't want to upgrade my hardware that was working fine with 8.5.
Well I kept getting upgrade notices and time was running out so I asked Scott, the guy we can always turn too for Cakewalk advice, about X1 who said it was worth at least giving a try with the trial version so I gave it a shot. Was pleased enough with what I saw that I decided to take the bait and am glad I did. I've since even purchased the expanded upgrade and got Sonar X1 Power to boot.
I've got to say for others out there who are holding off due to hardware issues, X1 runs amazingly well on my older dual xeon 2.8 system, much better than 8.5 did as far as resource use is concerned. I really think Cakewalk put some work into the engine and processor/core usage code. So far everything has been working great even effects start up during playback with hardly any noticeable glitches. I am very impressed with many of it's features and it's workflow. Definitely worth the $79 upgrade price. Now to find some time to go through Scotts book and really learn to use it's features. |

Posted - 10/13/2011 : 5:29:23 PM I'm like you, I was scared to death of X1 when everyone started freaking on the Cake forum! So I put it off as long as I could take it, and like you decided it was a reasonable price, and went for it! Glad I did, I think it just depends on your system, because(knock on wood, I haven't had any crashes), and like you on outdated system. So to anyone on the fence, if 8.5 ran fine, I don't see why you wouldn't give it a try. I hate installations, and updates, but it was actually super-easy from the discs anyway. Still need to put my order in for Power book, but will be soon! I'm having fun with it, and feel sorry for the people with all the problems. Wish I wouldn't have waited so long! |

Posted - 10/12/2011 : 09:13:36 AM Hey Dennis,
Welcome back!
Yeah, with the X1c and Expanded updates, Cakewalk has really come through with the bug fixes and added features. They also say there's another free update on the way, but not sure when.
In the meantime, SONAR X1 is working nicely here too, although I'd like to see more customization options in future versions.
I figured it would run fine on your system since you said you were already getting good performance from 8.5. I think Cakewalk listed slightly higher system requirements because they know people will have less problems with newer hardware.
Glad to have you back and thanks for reading my book!
Scott
