The hassles with the E-MU finally got to me, so I grabbed an Echo Audiofire 4 off fleabay. Two yrs old, from a guy over on gearslutz.
I hooked it up Sunday. I had it, the drivers and all up and running in less time than it would take to get a session going with the 1820! None of that crazy patchmix, either. Click where you want it to go. And Sonar has the right numbers in the driver box! Woo hoo!
I think the W7 saga has finally come to an end.
Oh, and after some problems miking my Yamaha at a gig last month (guy had a new Bose L1, and neither of us knew how to drive it), my wife ordered me to buy a new guitar. So-o-o-o I picked up a used Washburn D-17, flamed maple top and really nice onboard--sounds just like the guitar--for gigs. It'll debut Saturday at the Farmer's Market in town, and the next Sat. at the little bistro where I played my first "after Ed's bedtime" gig last month! |

Yep, wait til afterward for sure. The tone and ease of playing and easier key to sing in can be addictive amigo. Good luck at your show. Wish I were there to help you record it. |

Scott, I don't think sly is the word. I think the fact that my ex bought me that guitar 25 years ago had a lot to do with it.
I might try that, DS, but not now. 1st gig with it is Saturday and I'm not about to throw myself any curves! |

Glad to hear you're getting some of those issues straightened out Ed. Yeah, I got flippin' fed up with drivers man and have gone to 16 bit/44.1kHz straight into my DAW running Sonar right out of my ZED board. The onboard ADAC in the ZED is very comparable to BLA's quality and clarity so the 16 bit is working out just swell. I'm still working in a 24 bit environment within Sonar though using 24 bit plugs. But my joy has been no drivers, no compatibility issues, no latency, no hiccups, no freezing, yada yada yada. Just a nice solid analog signal converted by hardware with no stinking drivers to alter my experience.
Anyway, I'm super jazzed for you about your D17. I love Washburn guitars and have always felt they're a huge bang for the $$. Even the lowly D9 is an amazing little strum box. The Washburn really sweeten up when you tune them down a step to A=420 instead of 440. Really beautiful tone. I thought I was crazy til I read that quite a number of other guys do the same thing. Congrats, it's always nice to have a new guitar.

That's great... glad to hear you're back in business! 
Yeah, the quality of audio interface drivers can make a world of difference. Unfortunately, some of the interfaces out there have crappy drivers, which literally turns the hardware into a hunk of junk.
Ha! You tricked the wife into letting you get a new guitar, eh? You sly dog.
