Posted - 07/26/2009 : 4:54:18 PM I've finally taken the next step in the PC DAW experience and moved on up to a quad-core machine. It is the top-of-the-line Creation Station rackXT from Sweetwater - a very powerful machine with an Intel i7 quad-core chip, 6 GB of RAM, 1.5 TB of drive space, etc.
My last DAW was also a Sweetwater machine and it's still working well. Oh, and yes, I still use it and no you can't have it. But it's an older Pentium-D dual-core and showing it's age a bit in the amount of power it provides, so I figured it was about time to upgrade.
I'll be providing a wide range of coverage for this machine, including a special DigiFreq newsletter issue as well as some videos of my experiences with the machine. I'll provide links to all the content here.
In the meantime, feel free to ask questions, discuss, and post comments here...

No! I kept the server in the closet and pitched the wife! The server sits in the closet and never gives me an ounce of grief!

Posted - 06/08/2012 : 4:09:51 PM It's rare I decide I will part with anything - you know, I'm a freak'in hoarder dude, we hoarders don't let go of anything!!! I don't think I have that particular Behringer item anyhow. I've got their knob box, but not their fader box, a couple of small mixers, a couple line stereo mixers, and their midi floor foot controllers - and I think that's about it for Behringer. Oh, I've got a couple of their audio interfaces too - that they discontinued. I really need to put together a catalog of all the stuff. I'm starting to get a little fuzzy as to what I've got. |

Posted - 06/08/2012 : 2:43:47 PM Otto, do you have one of those Behringer virtualizer boxes maybe you'd like to sell on the cheap? |

Posted - 06/04/2012 : 3:46:23 PM Yep, often, the only first-hand experience I have with stuff is carrying the box in the front door. I mean, jeez!!! - do I have to open the thing? |

There's always night school... or maybe online courses (not sure about that one). I know what you mean about time though... never enough. I really wish I didn't need to sleep, but if I don't get my 8 hours... watch out.

Posted - 06/03/2012 : 4:23:06 PM I've spent quite a bit (by my standards) the last few years. I'm getting close to the point that I really don't Need anything else, but still have a few things on my shopping list.
Number one is getting my ART Dual Tube EQ hotrodded like the VLA. Then I won't have any starved plate gear in my chain. It's not that the eq sounds bad, I just know it would be better. Kinda like the difference between a Mojito made with a mix and the one I am sipping made with mint from the garden and fresh limes...

Posted - 06/03/2012 : 09:50:21 AM Oh, I'm sure there are plenty of people out there that spend even more on gear... otherwise there would be no music gear industry.
Just you and I by ourselves aren't keeping the likes of Musician's Friend, etc. in business... well, maybe you are...

Posted - 06/02/2012 : 09:41:54 AM Ha... well, don't envy me too much... I spend too much on gear and now I have no money.
Seriously though... I've never maxed out a system before and finally got a chance to do it. There are actually still a few things I may do to this beast, but as it is now, it's the best PC I've owned so far.
Other than maxing out the system, the other reason I wanted so much RAM is for virtual instruments. Now I should have no problems running pretty much anything. We'll see...

Posted - 03/01/2012 : 7:17:38 PM upgraded the DAW PC to 18GB of RAM along with a new system drive with Windows 7 64-bit. Next stop is an SSD for my sample libraries, but not quite there yet.
